About
Built because the handoffs kept breaking.
Mawkaii started after watching the same failure repeat: a strong design handed to a dev shop that could not build it, a strong build handed to an SEO consultant who found it uncrawlable, and a client paying three invoices to be told it was somebody else’s fault.
The story
Why the studio exists
We spent years on both sides of that handoff.
On the design side, watching considered work get flattened in translation because nobody in the room could say what was expensive to build and what was free. On the engineering side, receiving files with no states, no error handling and no thought about what happens on a slow connection in a basement.
And on the search side — arriving after launch to find the whole thing rendered client-side, with no server HTML, no structured data and a URL structure that had thrown away eight years of accumulated authority.
Every one of those failures was preventable. All of them were caused by the same thing: the decision that mattered was made by someone who would not have to live with its consequences.
So Mawkaii is organised the other way around. The people who design your product are in the same standup as the people building it and the people responsible for it being found. Nobody gets to hand a problem across a boundary and stop caring about it.
That is the entire premise. Everything else — the fixed pricing, the ownership terms, the reporting that tries to reach revenue — follows from it.
Principles
What we will not trade away
- Say the uncomfortable thing first
- If the project you are asking for is the wrong project, you will hear that on the first call — even when the right answer is a smaller engagement, or a different agency. We have lost work this way. It is still the right policy.
- Source every number
- Every metric on this site names where it came from. An unsourced figure on an agency website is a claim, not evidence, and treating it as evidence is how buyers get burned.
- Build for the handover
- You own the code, the designs, the accounts and the documentation. We write everything as though someone else will maintain it, because one day someone will.
- No hostage clauses
- No proprietary page builders, no accounts in our name, no twelve-month minimums. Retainers roll. If we are not earning it, you should be able to leave.
- Report the losses too
- Monthly reports include what we tried that did not work and what we cut as a result. A report containing only wins is a sales document.
- Accessible and fast is not premium
- Both are included in every build at no extra cost. Charging separately for a site that works for everyone and loads quickly is charging separately for doing the job.
The people
Who you will actually work with
A small senior team. There is no account manager layer between you and the people doing the work, because that layer exists to protect agencies from clients rather than the reverse.
